This Year's Model Updates:

Jeep expands the Grand Cherokee lineup for 2006 with the addition of a range-topping Overland trim level. It's been fitted with more standard luxury features and 5.7-liter V8. New standard features on all models include stability control and one-touch up-down front windows. Newly optional on the Laredo is the Quadra-Trac II four-wheel-drive system and an off-road package.

Pros:
  • Three available engines, excellent off-road ability, balanced handling, simple controls.
Cons:
  • Low-quality interior materials, small backseat, poor gas mileage with the big V8, ride can be bouncy over ruts.

  • LOVE MY JEEP - 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee

The Jeep I purchased was with the Limited 5.7L V8 HEMI option. I love the vehicle, this is the 2nd Jeep I have owned. I owned a 1995 Jeep Laredo which I traded in after 9 years, and now am in love with the Jeep Limited. It is a lot of fun to drive, there is a lot of power in this vehicle and the interior is very comfortable and the options are outstanding. I definitely recommend the Jeep SUV and will probably not own any other brand of SUV. Ill be on #3 in another 9 years (or less) hopefully. Jeep makes an awesome vehicle, my husband is on his 2nd Jeep also.

This car is amazing. To get this much performance and features from this type of car, youd have to spend almost twice as much. Mileage: better than the V8 in the previous model. We average about 13.5 mpg in city, about 18.5 on highway (with K&N filter). Towing capacity: We needed above 6,500 lbs - not a lot of choices - this one tops all. Interior space: like the old version. Good for kids, short trips with 4 adults. Look for a Durango, Commander, or the Suburban types if you need the seating capacity. Short wheelbase: this car handles car-like, not truck-like. Theres a reason why Porsche, BMW, Mercedes, Volkswagen have almost identical dimensions, mpg (with V8s).

06 model needs a tighter fit and finish on interior materials and the V6 model needs more horsepower. I have found a few rattles that are hard to stop on the inside. Ride is nice, stereo system sounds great, and leather seats are durable over period of time unlike leathers in other brands. My V6 model gets excellent MPG for an SUV (19 - 20 mixed driving and 22 - 24 highway driving). Overall, nice mid-sized SUV.

When we first purchased I loved it. Now that my husband has bought a new larger truck, we have naoticed how loud the Jeep is. Also, the tires are poor quality and we have had our car in the shop twice in 1 month!!! First, we had a transmission leak and now the solanoaid in the transmission went out and the air conditioner went out at the same time. Mind you we only have 12,800 miles on the vehicle. If we had to do over again we would but looks like we are stuck with this vehicle for a few more years due to their resale value unless we get lucky and the vehicle is a lemon!!!

  • Extremely pleased - 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee

What a great SUV. Drives & handles excellent. Its smooth, quiet, safe & responsive. Many great options. My last 4X4 was a loaded Ford Expedition but rode & handled like a truck. I had a Jeep salesman take me for a demo ride in a Grand last winter during a bad snowstorm to highlight how the Mercedes platform handles/controls in icy treacherous conditions. He drove it hard & the control & performance was very impressive. For 4 months I shopped other SUVs but went back for the Jeep! I drive the Colorado mountains 12 months a year so winter safety is important but also wanted to move into a luxury ride. It handles our 10K foot passes great. So far 18/23MPG. My Ford got 11/15 MPG. The increase in MPG alone is worth every $.

This car is very fun to drive if you can get your hands on one. It is definitely a keeper but I will tell you one thing, dont buy it for gas mileage because it has none but you will pass everything on the street but a gas station.

  • Jeep and my experience - 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee

It performs well. Many great features. Ride is excellent and quality of vehicle is one of best I have seen. Went looking for Toyota Highlander or GMC Envoy. This was superior in ride and workmanship and better appointed for a very similar price.

  • Jeep or H3 - 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Ive been looking for a SUV for the past 4 months or so. I really liked the H3 but realized that it may not be the most practical. I like styling in a vehicle and Im tired of spending top dollar for foreign car parts and service. I looked at the H3, Nissan, and Toyota. The Jeep seemed like the best choice. So far I have been pleased. Ive seen others complain about the cheap plastics. While I agree to some degree, it does have style to it. The car was designed to be an off road vehicle while still delivering great on road performance. It rides that tight rope very well. On top of it all, I got mine for a song, $22,500 out the door (with rebates). At this price, it cant beat!

  • 2nd Grand Cherokee - 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee

So far have really enjoyed owning this vehicle. Previously owned a 2001 Grand Cherokee Limited with V8, sold it with 189,000 miles on it. I am confident that this Jeep will satisfy as well. MPG so far is ranging 17-19 around town. Have yet to make a HWY trip to determine what that MPG will be.

This is my second Grand Cherokee. The first being a 1995 with V8 engine. This 2006 model has the 4.7 V8 and is terrible on gas in city driving ( 12- 13 MPG). On the highway it doesnt do better than 19 and averages around 18MPG. I did better with the old 318 in the 95 model. You would think after 10 years and less engine displacement Jeep could improve their mileage ratings. With only 8,000 miles on it I am beginning to see the telltale signs of future issues...like the outside temp gage display isnt working properly and the engine has a ticking sound like old lifters or someting. If I have the same issues with this Jeep that I had with the old one its good by Chrysler and never again.
